Simple steps to making Magnesium Oil at home
DIY Magnesium Oil Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2c magnesium flakes
- 1/2c water*
- Spray bottle (glass is ideal!)
Process
Firstly, source some magnesium chloride flakes (for example, for Aussies, we have this available in the Supporting balance shop). Once you have sourced the mag chloride flakes, you simply need to combine them in recently boiled water, in the ratio mentioned in the recipe above. Next, stir the solution until dissolved and store it in a sealed bottle. Finally, we recommend storing your DIY magnesium oil in a glass spray bottle.
*Most recommend using distilled water, personally, I’ve used filtered water, and it’s worked fine as the mag is naturally anti-bacterial.
Using Magnesium Oil
Using magnesium oil is simple and can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.
To apply, spray a small amount onto clean skin, preferably on areas like your arms, legs, or stomach, where absorption is optimal. Gently massage it in and let it sit for at least 20 minutes before rinsing off or leaving it on longer if desired.
Some people may experience a slight tingling sensation, especially if they are low in magnesium, but this usually fades over time. For best results, use magnesium oil consistently to support muscle relaxation, stress relief, and overall well-being.
How to avoid itchy skin when you start to use Magnesium Oil
It’s a good idea to avoid open cuts or recently shaved skin when applying magnesium oil as it may sting.
Most people will find that they can avoid irritation/ itching by applying magnesium oil on the soles of their feet rather than other areas of the body. This is particularly for people just starting using the oil. After using the mag oil for some time, you may find less irritation on other parts of the body.
If you have sensitive skin, or are looking for a magnesium oil product that is less irritating for the skin, there’s a great recipe for ‘mag-a-hol’. Get in touch if you’d like the recipe.
